    New Britain is a city in the state of Connecticut. It is located in Hartford County and the population is about 73,206 people. New Britain is located about 9 miles away from Hartford to the southwest. New Britain is home to Central Connecticut State University as well as Charter Oak State College. New Britain’s nickname is “Hardware City”. This is because of the history as a manufacturing center and because of the headquarters of Stanley Black and Decker. New Britain has a large Polish population, so sometimes the city is referred to as New Britski.

Another place is Walnut Hill Park. Walnut Hill Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Frederick designed Central Park, which is located in New York City. The New Britain Youth Museum, is another place. The Youth Museum contains artifacts and exhibits on regional culture by children.

    New Britain is home of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra. This was formed in 1948 by faculty members at the former Teacher’s College, which is now called Central Connecticut State University. The orchestra performed its first concert under the direction of Dr. Etzel Willhoit, who was the President of the College. In 1952 the orchestra was official organized as the New Britain Symphony Society, Inc. by Helen Kilduff. She was the supervisor of music in New Britain’s public schools at the time. The current conductor and musical director of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra, is now Maestro Ertan Seyyar Sener. He received this role during the 2014 to 2015 concert season.
