    Auburn is a city in the state of Maine. It is the county seat of Androscoggin County. The population of Auburn is approximately 23,055. Auburn is one of two principal cities in the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine metro and is also locally known as the Twin cities, or Lewiston-Auburn.

    In 1937 there was a large dispute in the history of Maine which occurred in Lewiston and Auburn. It was the Lewiston-Auburn Shoe Strike and it lasted from March to June. It involved four to five thousand workers who were on strike. Shortly after the strike had begun, the manufacturers offered a 10 percent wage increase, but it was refused by the strikers. Police and workers then fought, and the strike ended on June 29, 1937, with a loss for the workers.
